Why some touch controls just feel right

After testing dozens of games, I've become slightly obsessed with button placement. The single biggest reason a game feels bad on a phone isn't graphics or story, it's controls that fight your thumbs.

Good touch design leaves breathing room. Buttons sit where your hands naturally rest, and important actions never hide under your fingers. Turn-based games have it easy here, but even fast racers can nail it if they give you the option to swap tilt for buttons.

One thing I always check now is the size of interactive targets. Small icons that look fine in screenshots become misery on an actual phone screen. The best games make prompts large and forgiving.

If a game offers control customization, use it. Moving a fire button an inch or resizing a stick can completely change how a game feels. It's amazing how many people never open that menu.
