Which game genres actually belong on a phone
Not every genre translates well to a touchscreen, and pretending otherwise leads to a lot of frustrated players. After years of testing, I have opinions.
Turn-based RPGs and strategy games are naturals. Nothing needs split-second timing, so touch input never feels like a compromise. Casual and simulation games fit for the same reason, plus they're forgiving about short sessions.
Racing and arcade titles can absolutely work, but they live and die by their control options. Give me on-screen buttons over tilt any day. When a racer respects that, it's a blast.
The hardest cases are anything demanding precise aiming. Some manage it, but it's always a bit of a stretch. If you love those genres, honestly a controller clip is worth considering.
